What’s Happening At Park Shore?
Dix Hills, NY- We’ve all heard the rumors. At the end of every rainbow lies a pot of gold. But how many of us have actually taken the time or displayed the perseverance necessary to confirm this rumor? Is there really a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow? And if not, what treasures and secrets do rainbows behold?
The owners of Park Shore Country Day Camp, brothers Bob and Chuck Budah, decided that their camp would be the perfect place to undertake this investigation. According to the gregarious brothers, “There are always rainbows and sunshine at Park Shore!” Campers and their families agree. One anonymous passerby remarked, “Every time I drive down Deer Park Road, I look to the east, and there it is…the most magnificent sight I’ve seen. Since the creation of this article, I’m still not sure if she was referring to a rainbow, or the lush 15 acres making up the whole of Park Shore.read more
I didn’t believe in love at first sight until that fateful day I laid my eyes upon you. I remember my first glimpse of your beauty like it was yesterday…It was a crisp, sunny winter day–a day much like today. And I was so excited to take my new car for a spin. Driving south on Deer Park Road, I noticed something colorful, bright, and yet mysterious all at the same time. I kept on driving, but I could not get the thoughts out of my head. What had I just seen? Should I turn around for a closer look?
It didn’t take long for me to make the first U-turn and head back to you. It was as though you were calling me, and I could hear nothing but your melodic voice. As I approached, careful so as not to startle you, I realized what had drawn me to you…It was the clowns. Not ordinary clowns- but vibrant, jubilant, welcoming clowns…mounted high upon your fences. As I drove past their welcoming grins towards the parking lot, a feeling of joy rushed over me. I felt immediately at home, and you embraced me in your arms. I eagerly toured your green 15 acres, going slowly so as not to miss a second of your beauty.read more
As winter sluggishly creeps along, bringing with it frigid temperatures, sloppy precipitation, bare trees, and what seems like endless darkness, it can be easy to fall into a depressing routine of inactivity. With the proper mindset, however, winter’s icy grip can begin to melt away, replaced by thoughts of warmth, sunshine, blooming flowers, and energy…And nothing embodies positivity and action more than camp! Park Shore is a warm mug of hot cocoa, a steaming bowl of your mother’s homemade chicken noodle soup. Just thinking of it can turn the coldest and darkest of days into a rainbow of hope for what’s to come.
Nothing warms me more than thinking of what I will see this summer, my third at Park Shore. Endless smiles, children of all ages running, creating, climbing, thinking, building lifelong friendships, teamwork, the blue and orange… My eyes miss these scenes, but it is comforting and exciting to know that in a few short months, these will be daily visions. The darkness begins to fade…read more
